Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg MB
|
Tuition: $19,100 (n/c) Length: 12 months Program Highlights Quality specialties | Social | Part-time option | Local connections Website: www.umanitoba.ca/asper/asper_school_of_business_navset.htm The Asper MBA program doesn't differentiate between full- and part-time programs; students can finish in less than a year if they're raring to go, or follow an easier pace and take up to six years to complete their courses (on average, part-timers finish in three years). The only MBA program in Manitoba, it is an obvious choice for students in and around Winnipeg, who enjoy the networking opportunities that come with the school's close ties to the local business community, especially the city's big-name businesses, CanWest Global Communications and Great-West Life Assurance.
Students have been known to gripe about the commute, since the campus is located almost a half-hour drive from downtown Winnipeg. The school has been working hard at cultivating its network of high-level business executives, known as "the Associates," a 250-strong group whose membership includes Gail Asper of CanWest, Bob Brennan, CEO of Manitoba Hydro, and Albert D. Cohen, president of investment firm Gendis Inc. The Associates support the school with bursaries and scholarships, sponsor student competitions, host networking events and bring in guest speakers.
